Building Communities: Pod-Style Design

Llyod E. Reuss Residence Hall

In 2011 Lawrence Tech contracted UHS to design and develop a new student housing complex on property located just north of the existing university housing north building. The building is designed using a “pod” concept where student sleeping rooms share common living/lounge spaces, restrooms, and a kitchenette. Each pod has its own common lounge with fireplace, large format HD Television, and state-of-the-art appliances. The building is designed to build communities and encourage students to be out of their rooms with space for interaction and collaboration. Other common areas include a lobby lounge, cafe/retail space, fitness rooms, laundry, game rooms, and conference space.
